Here’s something a private equity founder will probably never say to you. If an investment is not the right fit for you, don't do it. I am managing partner at a private equity firm and I’ll be the first to say you shouldn’t do it.
Too many people in business play the short game. They just want to close a deal. They push someone into an opportunity that might make them money today but leaves the other person worse off tomorrow. That is not how we build trust and that is not how we build wealth that lasts.
Whether people realize it or not, they want to do business with people who actually care about the outcome. I want to know that the decisions we make together are in your best interest, not just mine. Because at the end of the day, if the investor wins, then we win too.
That’s how you build long term partnerships, not one time transactions.
